Description: Pantjiya Mckenzie Nungurrayi was born circa 1936, the painting in untitled and painted in 2002 with synthetic polymer paint on linen. It has a Papunya Tula Artists number PN0206010, Alice Springs, on reverse as well as the name of the artist.Pantjiya is the widow of George Tjangala a well known artist and early member of the Papunya Tula Artists. Pantjiya has five sons and three daughters, one of her sons is Raymond Maxwell Tjampitjinpa, who also paints for Papunya Tula Artists.
Pantjiya Nungurrayi only began painting in the mid nineties painting a very distinctive style using the three traditional colours of black, white and yellow ochre.
Exhibited National Museum of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW,Musee du Quai Branly and numerous galleries Australia and the USA.

By: ALICE NAMPITJINPA (born 1945). Woman Artist. Untitled. Depicting body paint designs for Women's Ceremonies at the rockhole site of Ngutjulnga. The motifs show a number of rockholes and little sandhills on the edges of the painting. One of the mythologies associated with the site tells of a group of women who travelled from Kungkiyunti further east. Upon reaching Ngutjulnga they were unable to get their firesticks to light and they all perished from the cold. A small group of rounded rocks at the site is said to represent the women as they hunched their backs against the cold. Provenance; Papunya Tula Artists, Alice Springs, Catalog number AN0012156.
